Kitchen worktops made of quartz

Amongst the many stones which are available on the market, those which are made of quartz have steadily been gaining popularity. There are essentially two different types of quartz which can be used in the manufacture of the kitchen counter tops, the kitchen counter tops made from natural quartz and worksurfaces made from engineered stone.

The work surfaces which are made of naturally occurring quartz are strong and scratch resistant. Quartz is also non porous which makes sure that the surface is perfect for being a kitchen counter top. Thicknesses may be 1.2 cm (1/2 inch), 2 cm (3/4 inch), 3 cm (1ј inch) or 4 cm (1Ѕ inch). These are prefabricated and typically require the presence of a professional for installation in your kitchen.

However the worksurfaces made from engineered stone have the added advantage of the resin bonding throughout the volume of the slab which makes sure that the impact resistance of the slab is much greater than those which are made of naturally occurring quartz. The worksurfaces made from engineered stone usually have a composition of about 5-7 percent of resin and other additives and the rest of the composition is made entirely of quartz. Some of the popular brands are Zodiaq, Cambria, technistone, Q, Caesarstone, Silestone, Naturastone and Hanstone. The standard thickness which these are available in are, 6mm, 1.2 cm (1/2 inch), 2 cm (3/4 inch), 3 cm (1ј inch) or 4 cm (1Ѕ inch). These are manufactured artificially and are brought onto the work site where they are cut according to the specifications of the kitchen and hence are more conservative of the materials making sure there is minimum loss of material during the whole installation process. The installation of these requires the presence of a trained professional too.
