PAINTS FROM PAINTINGS

Vermont company Fine Paints of Europe is collaborating with New York’s Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum on two new lines of paint colors. One of those collections, Classical Colors, comprises 150 wall colors taken from paintings in the Guggenheim’s collection. The other, Gallery Colors, is a set of 50 hues that Guggenheim curators, artists and designers have found to be effective for displaying art. Fine Paints of Europe imports and distributes paints manufactured by Wijzonol Paint Works in the Netherlands. You can order from it directly at 888-680-4278. Color consultants offer free advice.

PLANNING A SUITE LIFE

AARP offers these tips for families considering building a mother- or father-in-law suite for an aging parent:

  • Decide what your expectations are well in advance and make sure everyone agrees. Involve the parent in the process.
  • Make sure the addition is built following universal design guidelines. Are counters, bathrooms and doorways wheelchair accessible? Is there a walk-in shower with grab bars? Opt for entry-level additions to eliminate stairs. Look for a contractor or builder with experience in aging in place.
  • Check municipal building codes to make sure that accessory dwellings are allowed.
